The BRC Standard is scored by points and as breeders in USA it is wise to breed for these qualities according to the current standards established elsewhere in the world already.

There is no reason for re-inventing the wheel. I am hopeful the Continental Giant will be recognized one day in the US as a "foreign Breed". There is a plethora of info on the ARBA website detailing the requirements for recognition.

The underline of the body should be arched when posed and the body should be long –(26inches). The ear length (min 7″) is to be 25% of body length. The thick bone must be present to hold the frame up.

The recognized colors:

Black, Dark Steel, "Chestnut" Agouti (bronze tint), Opal (yellow tint), Yellow, Chinchilla, White (2 varieties- REW & BEW).

Conti’s are shown in 2 classes; color & white. Whites can weigh less than colors.

DQ info:  Unrecognized colors include dilutes such as "Blue" (dilute of black). Yellows should be free of dark fur ticking on the ears. Ears should stand upright, not lopped over "lazy". Blue Eye Whites are recognized although any vienna markings (White marks) are worthy of DQ also.

The point system:

Weight is 10pts @ 15.8+lb.

20pts for Color, Head, & Ears, and Type.

5pts for condition and health.

25 points total.

This information is summarized from the official BRC website. Please refer to the breed standard for more details.

Thank you,
